Mao Zedong (1893-1976) and The Great Long March/Nepoleon Bonaparte/Vladimir Lenin

Long March from Jiandxi to Shanxi.

The 10,000 km long journey in China, that started under the leadership of Mao Zedong from Jiangxi to Shaanxi in 1934 is known as the Great Long March.

It was not actually a single march, but a series of March undertaken by the Red Army. Nearly 1,60,000 Red Army volunteers and Chinese Communist Party leaders participated in it.

Mao Zedong

Mao Zedong was born at Shaoshan in China. He developed theories and principles based on Marxist and Leninist ideologies, and Maoism is the common name given to them.

After the Long March under his leadership, China became People's Republic in 1949. The Great Leap Forword was an attempt by Mao to transform the agrarian Chinese economy to an industrial power.

He introduced eight points to establish discipline in his nation.

  1. Speak politely.
  2. Pay fairly for what you buy.
  3. Return everything you borrow.
  4. Pay for anything you damage.
  5. Do not hit or swear at people.
  6. Do not damage crops.
  7. Do not take liberties with women.
  8. Do not ill-treat captives.

Nepoleon Bonaparte-The Dictator who was Loved by His People! And "The Liberator"

Nepoleon Bonaparte(1769-1821), was a Corsican-born French Military Commander, and political leader who seized the power in France after the revolution.

His father Carlo Buonaparte was a lawyer. His mother was Letizia Ramolino.

Nepoleon was a short person with a height of 5'6" and was nicknamed as "The Little Corporal". He was an excellent reader, especially of Voltaire and Rousseau, and wrote a romantic novel Clisson et Eugeine.

Nepoleon was defeated by the European Alliance in the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.

"A leader is a dealer in hope", and " If you want a thing done well, do it yourself" are some of Nepoleon's words that give us an idea about the dictator who was loved by his people!

Simon Bolivar (1783-1830)-The Liberator

This great leader of South American independence struggle was born in Venezuela. He liberated several Latin American countries from the Spanish rule and ended slavery. The title "The Liberator" suited him well. He became the President of Gran Colombia,Bolivia & Peru.

George Washington (1732-1799), the Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army and the first President of the USA.

He was the son of Augustine-a farmer, and Mary Ball. He proved that an advanced University education is not a qualification for becoming a world leader.

At that time, slavery was common. But he freed 123 enslaved people he owned through the will of his father. This was indeed a reflection of his attitude against that inhuman practice.

Vladimir Lenin and Russian Revolution

The Russian revolution has two phases.

  1. February revolution, this marked the end of brutal Tzar rule and
  2. The October revolution or Bolshevik revolution, brought Lenin to power.

Vladimir Ilich Ulyanov, generally known as Vladimir Lenin, was born at Simbirsk near Moscow. He was the brain behind the 1917- Russian revolution. It is said that two key incidents in his life changed him into a revolutionary.

One, was the execution of his brother for an attempt to murder the Russian Tzar Alexander III.

Second, was his expulsion from Kazan University for participating in a student uprising.

He fulfilled the dreams of the working class and ordinary people after assuming the power in Russia, following the Bolshevik Revolution.
