Human Body and Electricity

The human body produces a small amount of electricity as blood flows through our body. That is how we are able to take EEG, ECG,etc.

Does our body have resistance?

Answer is Yes, when our body or skin is dry, our resistance will be large. But, if it is wet, resistance decreases, and conductivity increases. So, it is not safe to touch electrical appliances when wet. Due to low resistance, there is a greater danger of us getting an electric shock.

Resistors in Various Forms

Resistor was invented by Otis Boykin

Thermistors: Resistors which are sensitive to heat.

  • Resistors in Bulb
Electric bulb was invented by Thomas Alva Edison. These electric bulbs or incandescent lamps use resistors. They mainly work based on the heating effect of electric current. The resistor mainly used in bulbs is tungsten. Since tungsten filament has high resistance, while converting electrical energy into light energy, it also produces heat energy. Advanced LED lights can be used to replace incandescent lamps as they require less power to work and don't waste electrical energy in the form of heat.
  • Carbon Resistor
Carbon resistors are widely used in electronic and electrical devices. They are small in size. The value of resistance can be found in the colour codes on them. A carbon film resistor generally has a resistive element made from a carbon film deposited on an inert substrate.
  • Rheostat
Rheostat is a variable resistor which is widely used in electric circuits to control the current. Rheostats are called wire wound resistors since they are made by wrapping a large number of nichrome wires across a ceramic core. The core behaves like an insulator.

Difference between Voltmeter and Ammeter.

  • Voltmeter
Voltmeter is the instrument used to measure voltage.
  • Ammeter
Ammeter is the instrument used to measure electric current.

As a student you can see and may have used these instruments in your physics laboratory.

Continents and Some of their Interesting Facts

Our Earth is divided into seven continents. Millions of years ago, there was a single continent called Pangea, which was covered by an Ocean called Panthalassa. Eventually, the supercontinent broke apart to form the different continents that we have today. Here are some interesting facts about them. Africa Africa is the 2nd largest continent in the world. Its total land area is 3,03,65,000 sq.km. Africa is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea and Indian Ocean. It is the only continent through which the Equator, Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn passes!   Nile River  Africa is also known as the " Cradle of Humankind ". There are 54 countries in Africa. The Nile, the longest river in the World and the Sahara, the largest hot desert in the world is in Africa. Africa produces about 70 percent of the world's cocoa beans. Asia Asia is the largest continent in the world. It is surrounded by the Arctic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, a...

DIGITAL MONEY TRASNFER SYSTEMS

Now we are in living in digital world and so our banking channels are gone digital to a great extent. Here I am giving some insights of India's online payment systems.  What is a Digital Money Transfer System? A digital money transfer system is a technology-based platform that enables the electronic transfer of funds from one account to another. This eliminates the need for physical cash or checks, making transactions faster, more convenient, and secure. Before doing any online transaction, we have to know about the IFSC fist. IFSC : IFSC stands for Indian Financial System Code. It is a unique 11-digit alphanumeric code assigned by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to each bank branch in India. This code is used to identify the bank and its specific branch for online fund transfer transactions such as NEFT, RTGS, and IMPS . How an IFSC code is structured: First 4 characters: Represent the bank code.   Fifth character: Always '0'.   Last 6 characters:...
